DESCRIPTION:Students of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) of Westmead International School (WIS) successfully organized an eye care medical outreach program\, “Vision for Life: Eye Care for the Community” at Brgy. Balete\, Batangas City\, on April 30\, 2025. \n\nThe “Vision for Life: Eye Care for the Community” outreach program was organized as part of the community extension initiative under the National Service Training Program (NSTP) and the GAWAD Communities Program of Westmead International School. The main objective of the activity was to promote proper eye care and provide free and accessible eye consultations to the residents of Barangay Balete\, Batangas City. \nThrough this medical mission\, about 50 community members benefited from free eye check-ups conducted by professional eye doctor Dr. Gerardo B. Aguado II\, EyeMD. Beneficiaries were screened for common eye concerns such as blurred vision\, eye strain\, and dryness. Those in need were given free eyeglasses and eye drops as part of the school’s health assistance efforts. \nEducational materials and brief discussions on basic eye care practices were also provided to raise awareness about preventive measures and the importance of regular eye health monitoring. \nThe event drew participation from various sectors of the school community. CWTS students served as the primary volunteers\, actively assisting with registration\, guiding patients\, and facilitating the flow of the program. The activity was led and supervised by Prof. Antonio A. Maligaya\, NSTP Director\, and CWTS advisers Ms. Eunice D. Olan\, who also serves as the GAWAD Communities Program Coordinator\, and Ms. Grace Marasigan; and with guidance of Dr. Marites D. Manlongat\, school Vice President for Academic Affairs. \nPresent also were program heads\, faculty members\, NROTC officers\, and members of other student organizations who lent their support to ensure the success of the event. Barangay officials\, who were also in attendance\, expressed their gratitude for the meaningful assistance provided to their constituents. The outreach program demonstrated the school’s ongoing commitment to community welfare\, service learning\, and holistic student development. \nWestmead International School and its extension office plan to continue this outreach activity and expand to other communities in the future.

DESCRIPTION:Batangas City\, Philippines — Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to community involvement\, inclusivity\, and student well-being\, Westmead International School (WIS) has successfully launched three institutional programs: the GAWAD Communities Program\, the Gender and Development (GAD) Advocacy\, and the Anti-Drug Education (ADE) Initiative. \nThe Guided Action for Welfare and Advancement in Development of Communities (GAWAD) Program was officially launched on December 9\, 2024. This flagship extension initiative aims to mobilize students\, faculty\, and departments in conducting sustainable\, values-driven outreach activities that uplift partner communities through health campaigns\, livelihood training\, environmental awareness\, and educational programs. \n“This is a movement of compassion and purpose\,” shared Ms. Eunice D. Olan\, Program Chair of the BA Communication Arts and GAWAD Coordinator. “Through GAWAD\, we bring our learning beyond the classroom and into the heart of the community.” \nThe GAWAD Communities Program is implemented in collaboration with academic units such as the Higher Education Research Office (HERO)\, the National Service Training Program (NSTP)\, the various colleges\, and the WIS Student Council. \nMeanwhile\, in line with the school’s commitment to equity and inclusivity\, the Gender and Development (GAD) Advocacy was launched by the WIS GAD Office on February 5\, 2025\, led by Dr. Sherly C. Manalo as its coordinator. \nThe advocacy launch featured seminars\, discussions\, and campus-wide campaigns promoting gender sensitivity\, respect for diversity\, and awareness of gender issues. Dr. Manalo emphasized the importance of fostering safe spaces within educational institutions. \n“Empowering every learner means recognizing their identity\, voice\, and right to belong\,” she said during the launching ceremony. \nAlso launched was the Anti-Drug Education (ADE) Initiative\, spearheaded by the WIS Student Affairs Office and coordinated by Prof. Armela P. Mercado. The program began with a student consultation on February 19\, 2025\, gathering insights from students on how to make drug prevention campaigns more engaging and relevant to the youth. \nProf. Mercado explained that the ADE program is designed not just to inform\, but to empower. \n“We are building a culture of awareness and responsibility. Our goal is not only to prevent drug use but to inspire healthy choices and positive peer influence.” \nThese three distinct programs—GAWAD\, GAD\, and ADE—represent WIS’s proactive and holistic approach to education: one that molds learners into community leaders\, inclusive citizens\, and responsible youth.
